Our consultation on the future of stroke services for Coventry and Warwickshire has now closed - thank you to everyone who took part.

The three local clinical Commissioning groups that plan and buy services on behalf of local patients, NHS Coventry and Rugby CCG, NHS South Warwickshire CCG and NHS Warwickshire North CCG, launched a consultation on 9 October 2019 on proposals for the future of local stroke services.   The consultation deadline has been extended to 2 February 2020.

We want to improve stroke services for local people. To make this happen we know we need to change services and invest in specialist rehabilitation, ambulance transfers and medicines. We feel that it is important to make this investment in order to reduce the chances of people having a stroke and the disability resulting from a stroke.

Our proposed options have been developed with local clinicians, patients, carers, community groups and our dedicated patient and public advisory group.

Check out the following documents for details of our proposed options, the work we’ve undertaken and how our proposals were developed:

We have held a number of public events across the area to enable people to have their say, and we are encouraging people to complete an online survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Stroke-CovWarks-Pathway

The survey closed at midnight on 2 February 2020.

NHS Warwickshire North CCG awarded “Outstanding” for Patient and Community Engagement

NHS Warwickshire North CCG has been awarded Green Star/Outstanding for compliance with the statutory guidance on patient and public participation in commissioning health and care for 2018/19 as part of NHS England’s CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework.

The framework requires the CCG to submit evidence of how it has involved patients and the public in the commissioning of health and care services for that reporting year. The submission is split across a number of topics such as governance, day-to-day practice and how the CCG involves people to improve equalities and reduce health inequalities.

The evidence provided by the CCG is subject to a number of reviews before being given a final score. To achieve a rating of “Green star/Outstanding”, a CCG must score a minimum of 14 out of a possible 15. For 2018/19, NHS Warwickshire North CCG achieved the maximum score of 15.

Under the National Health Service Act 2006 (as amended by the Health and Social Care Act 2012), CCGs have a statutory duty to involve the public in commissioning (section 14Z2). In addition to meeting statutory responsibilities, effective patient and public participation helps CCGs to ensure that commissioned services address the needs of local communities and tackle health inequalities.

As well as a commitment to supporting continuous improvement in public participation, NHS England has a legal duty (section 14Z16) to assess how well each CCG has discharged its public involvement duty (section 14Z2), which is done each year through the Improvement and Assessment Framework.

The CCG thanks all those who have worked with us this year and who have given their time and support to help improve health and care outcomes through engagement.
