If you’re going on holiday in the UK this summer, A&E shouldn’t be one of your tourist attractions. Remember, you can visit any local pharmacy or call NHS 111 for health advice and concerns.
NHS Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is reminding people if you become unwell on your holiday in the UK and can’t visit your GP, A&E isn’t your only option. Local pharmacies and NHS 111 are available across England.
Pharmacists offer expert advice for many common ailments such as hay fever, insect stings, dehydration and upset stomachs. Some pharmacies are open as late as midnight, weekends and bank holidays and you don’t need an appointment. So if it’s not an emergency, don’t spend a day of your holiday waiting at A&E!
Alternatively you can call NHS 111 which is available 24/7 and every day of the year including bank holidays. And it’s free! Speak to a fully trained adviser who can provide advice on the best course of action. Depending on the situation, the NHS 111 team can connect you to a nurse, emergency dentist or even a GP, and can arrange face-to-face appointments if they think you need one.
NHS 111 advisers can also assess if you need an ambulance and send one immediately if necessary.
Hopefully you won’t need any health advice or treatments whilst you are on holiday, but along with all your essentials remember, if it’s not an emergency or life threatening, you can visit your local pharmacy or call NHS 111.
