Redesigning stroke rehabilitation services in Coventry & Warwickshire Posted on 5 Sep 2018

We would like to offer you an opportunity to meet with us to hear the latest updates from the stroke programme, including what has been achieved so far and what we still need to do, as well as give you further opportunities to help to shape and influence the programme as it moves forward.

As many will be aware, the local NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, which are responsible for planning and funding most health services across Coventry and Warwickshire,  have been working together with clinicians, stakeholders, patients and the public on proposals to redesign stroke services in order to give the best possible outcomes to patients.

These proposals represent a big change in how stroke services would be delivered. It is taking us time to get the proposals in place whilst making sure that we can deliver and sustain any suggested changes. We also want to ensure that we respond to the valuable feedback we received from patients and the public during our engagement in 2014/15 and further engagement in 2017.

For example, recent work has been focusing on some very detailed rehabilitation workforce modelling, which is in direct response to the feedback received during our 2017 engagement with the public, where we heard loud and clear that you wanted to feel confident that the workforce needed to run these services would be in place before any changes are made to existing hospital services.

The proposed plans for stroke specialist rehabilitation have been the subject of further discussion with clinicians since we last shared them in 2017, and we need to gain feedback from patients and the public to ensure we are on the right track and that the preferred model and locations for delivering stroke bedded rehabilitation services meet patient need whilst being safe, sustainable and provide the best possible quality of care for our patients.

Any feedback you provide will help us to better understand what is important to you and will support our specialist patient and public stakeholder group when they review and appraise the options presented to them.

Following on from patient feedback, we have arranged revised dates for these sessions for the end of the month to help ensure as many people as possible are given the chance to share their views. We hope to see you there.
